Update: Community Sends Care Packages In Honor of Fallen Soldier

The Montgomery County School District Jr. ROTC and booster club is honoring a local hero by sending care packages to his comrades still serving overseas.

Private First Class Dustin Gross of Montgomery County was killed in Afghanistan in May.

On Monday the group mailed 142 care packages containing toiletries, snacks and even powder mixes for water to the members of his unit.

The items were donated by members of communities from Montgomery County all the way to Fayette County.

The packages also contain something extra special: a handwritten note. The note pays tribute to Gross, and thanks soldiers for their sacrifice.

The packages were sent to the unit’s chaplain, who will personally hand them to the troops.
