Fundraising checks presented to girl paralyzed from shooting
LEXINGTON, Ky. (WTVQ) – Usually it’s not a good thing when a student is pulled out of class, but that wasn’t the case Thursday in Lexington for middle school student Amya Catching.
The Bryan Station Middle student was presented two checks from a fundraiser held last week to help her family pay medical bills.
The check’s totaled $750.
Catching was paralyzed from the chest down over the summer after police say 23-year old Carlos Jenkins fired multiple shots into the home where she was having a birthday sleepover at a friend’s house on Carneal Road. One of those bullets hit Catching in her spine and changed her life forever.
The shooting happened on the eve of Catching’s 12th birthday.
