Fayette County couple hit and killed by train

WINCHESTER, Ky. (WTVQ) – The Clark County Sheriff and Railroad police are investigating a double fatal crash involving a train and a car.

A Fayette County couple died after their car was hit by a train Wednesday at around 10 p.m., according to the Clark County Coroner.

Officials say the couple was trying to cross the tracks at the intersection of 2 Mile Road and Mccullough Lane when their car got stuck on the tracks.

After several failed attempts to move the car –we’re told the couple tried to get out of the train’s path, but were too late.

According to the Clark County Coroner –the  driver was killed as he tried to help his wife get out of car.

The female passenger was taken to Clark Regional Medical center where she died Thursday morning.

Traffic was stalled for several hours as Railroad Police and the Clark County Sheriff investigated the fatal crash.
Further details on what caused the couple’s car to stall on the train tracks have not been made available.

The victims’ names have not been released pending notification of family.
