Whitley County woman steals from fatal crash victim

WHITLEY COUNTY, Ky. (WTVQ)- A Whitley County woman stole property from a fatal crash victim.

According to the Whitley County Sheriff’s Department, 36 year-old Scott B. Bray, of the Poplar Creek community, was killed when he lost control of his motorcycle and struck a tree down an approximately 20 ft. embankment.

Whitley County 911 received a call around 11: 45 Wednesday morning regarding the crash.

Sergeants Todd Shelley and Dave Lennon were dispatched to KY 1064 in the Whetstone community where they found Bray and his crashed motorcycle.

Bray  was pronounced dead at the scene by Whitley Co. Coroner Andy J. Croley.

Witnesses stated that before Sergeants Shelley and Lennon arrived, a female individual took cash from Bray’s wallet.

The female was identified as Alishia M. McElfresh.

She was arrested and charged with theft by unlawful taking under $500 and tampering with physical evidence.

McElfresh was lodged in the Whitley Co. Detention Center.

The crash and incident are still under investigation.
