Arrest made after Speedway robbery
LEXINGTON, Ky. (WTVQ) – A man pretending to buy a soft drink at a Speedway instead, robbed the store.
Police said 50-year-old Anthony J. Davenport was arrested by the Lexington Police Department Thursday and charged with robbery and possession of a controlled substance.
They said at around 12:45 a.m. officers were called to the Speedway on 447 East New Circle Road for a report of a robbery.
The clerk told officers that a man had entered the store, brought a soft drink to the counter, then pulled out a gun and demanded cash from the register.
He fled the store after getting it.
About three hours later, the patrol officer who took the robbery report saw a man who matched the suspect’s description walking in the area of Seventh Street and Martin Luther King, Jr. Boulevard. He took the person, Anthony Davenport, into custody.
