Downtown Lexington crosswalk painted rainbow

LEXINGTON, Ky. (WTVQ)- Just days before Lexington’s tenth annual Pride Festival, a permanent surprise has been added to an intersection near the festival’s location.

There are brand new crosswalks at the intersection of Limestone and Short Streets and they’re not just any normal crosswalks but bright rainbow colored ones.

The Blue Grass Community Foundation installed the new crosswalks this week as both a way to promote walking and biking downtown but also to symbolize the city’s diversity and surprise those planning to attend this weekends pride festival.

“I actually just saw it because I was going downtown and I drove right over it and it looked fantastic. It’s right there where the stage will be. I can’t think of a better way that the city of Lexington can say we support you, we welcome you we are happy that you are here being a part of our community,” said Paul Brown, chairman of the 2017 Pride Festival.

Members of the Blue Grass Community Foundation tell me this will not be the last crosswalk they spruce up.

They say they’ve already lined up a local artist to do another colorful designed crosswalk on another intersection on Short Street.
