Mother and toddler found dead in Frankfort home

FRANKFORT, Ky. (WTVQ)- There is a heartbreaking story out of Frankfort where a mother and her toddler were found dead.

Neighbors say they are still in shock after learning a young mother and her two-year-old toddler died in a home Sunday night.

ABC 36 spoke to the woman who actually called 911 and she says she doesn’t know if she’ll ever be able to recover from such a tragedy.

Traci McGranahan says she was sitting on her back porch Sunday night when she heard screaming.

“She screamed again of course we ran over there. You know, you hear something about a baby and you’re going to run straight over there,” said McGranahan.

McGranahan says when she ran in the home she found 2-year-old Jaxton Dean unresponsive on the floor and 26-year-old Kirsten Dean lying in the bath tub bleeding out from self-inflicted stab wounds.

“And 9-1-1 was telling us what to do and I just, they told me to you know grab anything and put pressure on her neck because that’s where she was cut and so that’s what I did,” said McGranahan.

When first responders arrived, Kirsten Dean was pronounced dead.

Jaxton Dean was taken to Frankfort Regional Medical Center where he was pronounced dead from an apparent drowning.

“I mean what do you do? How do you just go on knowing that there’s a baby that died and a woman that died right next door to your home and that you were there and you seen every bit of it. It’s hard,” said McGranahan.

McGranahan says she can’t believe something like this happened in her neighborhood and says it has her thinking she may want to move.

“So for something like this to happen, like I don’t even want to be here any more. It’s just really traumatized me,” said McGranahan.

Frankfort police say this is still a very active death investigation as they try to understand all of the circumstances that lead up to these two deaths.
