Chipotle hack impacting Lexington restaurants and customers
LEXINGTON, Ky. (WTVQ) – On Friday, Chipotle Mexican Grill announced that several of their 2,000 plus stores were hacked.
The national restaurant chain says the hack happened through it’s payment system between March 24 and April 28, 2017.
Upon completing their investigation — Chipotle discovered that malware was used to capture data from magnetic strips of debit and credit cards used by customers in the stores.
Through the company’s website — customers were alerted that the data breach impacted customers in Lexington.
All four Lexington locations were compromised including Richmond Road, South Limestone, Nicholasville Road and Plaudit Place.
The Better Business Bureau of Lexington says the breach has only compromised the credit and payment information of customers.
Heather Clary, Director of Communications at BBB says incidents like this serve as a reminder to pay closer attention to bank statements and monitor our accounts online to track theft.
“You can check it at any time and get right on top of it,” said Clary. “If something looks suspicious or if there is an unauthorized charge — you can dispute it. It’s your right by law.”
