Memorial Day Ceremonies To Be Held Across The Bluegrass

Fallen soldiers will be honored in ceremonies across the Bluegrass today.

  • 10:30 a.m.-Pat Whitt, who served in the Army during the Vietnam era, will speak at the Thomson-Hood Veteran Center in Wilmore at a program to honor residents of the center who have passed away in the past year. There will be a final roll call, slide show, lighting of candles, and playing of Taps.
  • 11:00 a.m.-Former Colonel David Preston M.D., Chief of Urology at the Lexington VA Medical Center, will speak at a ceremony at http://www.campnelson.org/home.htmin Nicholasville that will honor military casualties through a cannon salute, rifle salute, presentation of colors, and a wreath laying.
  • 11:00 a.m.-The Lexington National Cemetery will be the site of an event that will feature presentation of the Colors, playing of Taps, a ceremonial firing detail, and remarks by Mayor Jim Gray.
