LPD: Thief hides his face but couldn’t hide his voice
LEXINGTON, Ky. (WTVQ) – Lexington police say a robbery suspect’s voice helped lead to his arrest.
Court documents say 21-year-old Oscar Melendez walked into the H&M Market on N. Limestone Street on March 9, 2017 wearing a black ski mask.
He pointed a gun at the clerk and demanded money, according to police.
Documents say during the robbery, Melendez kept saying: “Sorry ma’am.”
Police say the clerk told investigators she immediately recognized Melendez’ voice since he was a frequent customer at the store. She also says she could see part of his face even with the mask.
However, she did not say anything to police because she feared for her safety.
Documents gone on to say she spoke to the owner of the store and described the suspect to him and he narrowed in down to “Oscar.” The clerk positively identified the suspect as Oscar Melendez, according to police.
