UPDATE: Name of Lexington Police officer involved in shooting released

**UPDATE**

Lexington, Ky. (April 14, 2017) – Lexington Police Officer Joseph A. Baker, age 25, of Lexington, is the Officer involved in the shooting. Officer Baker has worked for the Lexington Police Department for 3 years and is a graduate of the Lexington Police Training Academy located in Lexington Kentucky.

 

Officer Baker has been placed on paid administrative leave in accordance to the policy of the Lexington Police Department.

 

 

**UPDATE**

Lexington, Ky. (April 13, 2017) – Kentucky State Police have arrest and charged Sergei S. Sargaev in the officer involved shooting in Lexington Ky.

 

Sergei S. Sargaev, age 26 of Lexington was released form UK Hospital and immediately arrested by Kentucky State Police. Sergei Sargaev was charged with Wanton Endangerment 1st Degree- Police Officer and Criminal Mischief 1st.

An officer with the Lexington Police Department has been involved in an officer-involved shooting.

 

At approximately 11:30 p.m. Tuesday, April 11, an officer patrolling the area of Stanton Way initiated an investigation of a suspicious vehicle, a Toyota 4Runner, behind La Quinta Inn. During the course of his investigation the officer discharged his firearm, striking the suspect.

 

The suspect is a 26-year-old white male from Lexington. He was transported to the hospital for treatment of his injuries. No other people were in the vehicle and the officer was not injured.

 

The officer involved is a three-year veteran of the Lexington Police Department. He was wearing a body camera, and video of the incident will be reviewed by investigators and the Commonwealth’s Attorney office.

 

This incident is being investigated by the Kentucky State Police Critical Incident Response Team. In accordance with the department’s policy regarding post-shooting investigations, the Lexington Police Public Integrity Unit will conduct an internal review of the incident. The officer has been placed on administrative leave per department policy.
