Special birthday cakes for special kids

LEXINGTON, Ky. (WTVQ) – Maxwell Street Presbyterian Church turned into a bakery Tuesday as Sweet Blessings held its annual Bake-a-Thon.

Sweet Blessings is a non-profit in Lexington that believes all birthdays are special and that all children deserve a birthday cake. Sweet Blessings bakes birthday cakes for children ages four to 17 who are facing a life-threatening illness or poverty.

In 2016, Sweet Blessings baked 2,215 cakes in Central Kentucky. Each cake is hand-crafted by volunteers in a special shape or design made especially for that child.

At this year’s bake-a-thon volunteers spend 24-hours baking, icing, decorating and delivering 157 cakes for children in need.
