Rupp Arena Lease Extension

LEXINGTON, Ky. (WTVQ) – The basketball Cats will be at Rupp Arena through 2033 Solid Blue fans.

The Lexington Center and UK announced a 15-year extension on the lease that will kick in when the current lease is up at the end of 2018.

After plenty of talk and plans for a redesign or even a new building, the powers that be settled on a renovation and overhaul.

The new video board and ribbon boards will be supplemented by some chair back seats in the upper deck and some new club suites as well.  Plus UK will get a bigger cut of parking, catering and concessions.

LCC will get an annual rent payment of $1.9 million for 28 events from the university.

It’s viewed as a win-win by all parties involved and enhancing the fan experience in the process.
