Richmond PD: Unlocked doors make for easy vehicle break-ins
RICHMOND, Ky. (WTVQ)- Police in Richmond say they’re stepping up patrols to try and discourage a rise in vehicle break-ins but they could use the public’s help.
Major Steve Gregg says in the past three weeks the police force has taken a number of reports of people who are victims of these break-ins. Gregg says things like money and electronics have been stolen but there is some special concern over the amount of guns that have been taken from cars.
“They’ll go up and check the door and if it’s locked they’ll go to the next car.”
As for advice to keep from becoming a victim, Gregg says, “At night time when you go in the house you need to make sure you take all the valuables out of your car and make sure you lock your vehicles.”
If you see any suspicious behavior in your neighborhood, Gregg asks that you call police and make a report.
