Kentucky ACLU Hiring Second Full-Time Attorney

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (AP) – The American Civil Liberties Union of Kentucky will have two full-time attorneys on its staff for the first time in its 61-year history.

The group announced it is creating a paid, one-year legal fellowship in which it will employ a second attorney on a full-time basis. In a release the ACLU says the hiring is an example of its “dedication to utilizing litigation as a tool to combat government encroachment on civil rights.”

Executive Director Michael Aldridge says the bigger staff will improve the group’s ability to “respond to a wide array of threats to civil liberties.”

The fellowship is open to a licensed attorney who is either a current member in good standing of the Kentucky Bar Association or is eligible for immediate admission without examination.
