NIH Awards $19.8M Grant to University of Kentucky
LEXINGTON, Ky. (AP) – The National Institutes of Health has awarded $19.8 million to a University of Kentucky healthcare center that focuses on turning research into treatments.
The Lexington Herald-Leader (http://bit.ly/2ffVI7C) reports UK officials held a news conference Wednesday to announce the four-year grant to the UK Center for Clinical and Translational Science.
The center is focused on improving health disparities in Kentucky and Appalachia and has funded 100 science and research infrastructure projects. One such project, which studied behavioral problems in children with hearing loss led to a new screening process for those children.
It is the second such award for the center, which received a five-year $20 million award in 2011.
