PSAT administered to all 9th & 10th graders Wednesday

LEXINGTON, Ky. (WTVQ) – As of Wednesday, Fayette County Public Schools became the first district in the state to offer the PSAT academic test to all enrolled freshman and sophomores.

That’s an 1800% increase in the number of students participating.

FCPS Superintendent Manny Caulk spoke of the importance of having more students take the state assessment test, saying the PSAT is a gateway to advanced placement courses, college entrance exams, and scholarships.

“We plan to get that data back near the end of December, beginning of January,” said Caulk.  “What we want to do is be able to sit down with our college career coaches and counselors, sit down with students one on one, go through their data and make sure that they are taking the most rigorous courses, based on that data.”

More than 3,400 ninth and 2,900 tenth graders took the exam, each of whom will automatically receive free access to Khan Academy, a personalized online practice program that helps students in areas where they need development.
