UPDATE: Man accused of kidnapping stepdaughter & baby arrested in WV

CHARLESTON, Wv. (AP) – An Illinois man accused of kidnapping his 13-year-old stepdaughter and her 3-week-old baby is now in custody. Deputies say Christopher Ray Derleth was arrested Saturday at a makeshift campsite in West Virginia.

Authorities had been looking for him, as well as Katherine Derleth and her son Christopher Derleth, Junior. Kentucky law enforcement agencies were put on alert since it was believed the three may have been headed to West Virginia.

Katherine Derleth and her baby were reportedly taken to a hospital to be examined. Authorities say she has a congenital heart defect and a pacemaker. But investigators say they appeared to be okay.

Authorities say Christopher Derleth will be returned to Illinois to face kidnapping charges.
