Urban chicken keeping community raising awareness on keeping healthy flocks

LEXINGTON, Ky. (WTVQ) — Members of the urban chicken keeping community showed off their chicken coops Sunday.

The sixth annual ‘Chicken Coup Chase’ and tour is sponsored by CLUCK.

Eight chicken coup owners in Lexington allowed the public to see their coops and learn more about the importance of chicken keeping.

Event coordinator Travis Robinson says, “I think it’s important to be able to keep chickens because you can provide your own food. Eggs from backyard chickens are known to be higher in nutrients, healthier and its fun to have chickens in your back yard.”

Organizers say the event also promotes keeping healthy flocks and good relationships with other coop owners.
