Debunked: Temperature Changes Do Not Cause Illness
When the weather begins to change, people tend to blame their illness on changing temperatures.
ABC 36 asked UK Physician Dr. Ryan Stanton if the weather plays a role in illness, or if that was just an old wives tale.
"The temperature changes are a myth, going outside when it’s cold unless you are out there for an extended amount of time for hypothermia; the risk of infection is not any higher. Also, with the heat the risk of infection goes up when we’re all in tight quarters together, and then the risk of trauma goes up when it’s warm and wet outside," said Dr. Stanton.
Doctor Stanton also said the flu would be an issue this time of year no matter what the weather does.
