2016 LFUCG City Council Election Questionnaires Released

LEXINGTON, Ky. (WTVQ) – The Fayette Alliance in conjunction with Fayette County Neighborhood Council and Fayette County Farm Bureau has released candidate responses to its 2016 LFUCG
City Council Election Questionnaire.

These questionnaires are a key effort to educate the public on where LFUCG City Council candidates stand on important growth issues facing Lexington.

The questionnaires focus on important local issues and land-use policies.

Some questions included are listed below:

  • “What will you do to support our local agricultural industries, economic development
    and jobs in Lexington, both inside and outside the Urban Services Boundary?”
  • “Lexington has many infill-redevelopment opportunities throughout the entire city.
    How do you propose to protect the character of our neighborhoods, while pursuing
    this needed growth strategy?”
  • “Balancing growth and preservation is essential to our unique economy, environment,
    and quality of life in Lexington. Do you support an expansion of the Urban Service
    Area during this Comprehensive Planning process? Please explain.”

The LFUCG City Council election is important because our elected officials have the power to shape our community’s future. Planning and Zoning laws are the building blocks of Lexington and are passed by Planning Commission and City Council.

Planning Commission members are appointed by the mayor and confirmed by the
Council.
