RPD: Driver out of control on I-75, narcotics found
RICHMOND, Ky. (WTVQ) -Officers in Richmond have arrested a Berea man on numerous charges after a traffic incident.
Police in the area of the I-75 overpass on Lexington Road say they say a vehicle merging onto Lexington Road from the 90A exit ramp at a high rate of speed. This was at about 11:45 p.m. on Tuesday. They say the driver, Jerry R. Smith, 31, skidded across the median of Lexington Road and into the northbound lane facing opposing traffic, including the officers. Police also say they received a report that Smith had been driving recklessly on I-75 before exiting.
Smith was detained, and officers were able to determine that he was intoxicated.
A search of Smith’s vehicle revealed buprenorphine hydrochloride pills, 1/2 of a methadone pill, a small amount of methamphetamine, and two glass pipes, according to police.
Smith was charged with DUI, wanton endangerment, and possession, among other charges.
He was taken to the Madison Co. Detention Center.
