Estill Co. releases results of drinking water tests

ESTILL CO., Ky. (WTVQ) -Emergency management officials have released results of a test on drinking water in Estill Co., after Judge-Executive Wallace Taylor learned of radioactive waste being dumped in the county landfill.

According to the report, two of the water sources (from a pond at Front Gates and a creek on Dry Branch,) showed results within what is accepted for drinking water.

A pond located on the landfill had beta levels within drinking water standards, but alpha levels were slightly elevated above drinking water standards. Testing for Radium 226 and Lead 210 were within acceptable levels.

The State Radiation Health Branch is assuring residents there is not a public threat or a threat to workers at the landfill from levels seen in the water sample taken from there.
