95-year-old veteran throws pitch at Legends game

LEXINGTON, Ky. (WTVQ) – A World War II veteran was honored at the Lexington Legends game Saturday night.

95-year-old Mary Ballard threw out the first pitch at the game.

Ballard served two years in England as a nurse with the Army Air Corps during World War II.

She took care of wounded soldiers being flown from France or Germany to Britain after D-Day.

Her appearance is part of the Kentucky Department of Veterans Affairs’ effort to highlight the state’s female veterans.
