9-year-old cancer patient raising funds for other patients

JaceGibbins2NICHOLASVILLE, Ky. (WTVQ) -A nine-year-old Nicholasville boy undergoing oral chemotherapy for a rare cancer isn’t letting his health slow him down.  When it comes to helping others going through cancer treatment, the name of the game for Jace Gribbins is “Operation: Christmas Smiles.”

Gribbins was inspired by the games and parties provided by the Child Life Program during the 2014 holiday season, when he spent most of the month of December at Cincinnati Children’s Hospital Medical Center undergoing treatments.  When it was time to leave, Jace wanted to ensure other young patients enjoyed the same kind of care he received.  That was when “Operation: Christmas Smiles” was born.

“Operation: Christmas Smiles” is Jace’s way to round-up toys for the children who need to be in the hospital through the holiday season. He and his family are running an online fundraising campaign on RedBasket.org in hopes of raising $1,000 to purchase new toys and games to be delivered to the Ryan Seacrest Studio at the hospital during the week of Thanksgiving.
