City to begin yard waste winter collection protocol

LEXINGTON, Ky. (WTVQ)- Lexington is set to start its winter collection protocol on Monday, February 1.

It says yard waste containers, yard waste bundles and yard waste bags will not be collected by city crews as part of the regular weekly service. All other pickups will continue as normal.

According to the city, yard waste collection will start again in late March to coincide with the spring season. If a resident has yard waste in the next few weeks, they can request a pick up through LexCall by calling 311 or (859)425-2255. Service requests can also be made online, and through the LexCall phone app.

The city says it saves more than $8,000 in fuel costs by using the winter protocol.
