Hazard Police: Man’s razor blade story doesn’t keep him from jail
HAZARD, Ky. (WTVQ) – Officers arrested a Hazard man Monday evening, but say he had a novel approach to avoiding incarceration.
Police say they attempted to stop Dustin Cox, wanted on a warrant, when they saw him walking in the Lothair area. Cox, however, ran off, according to investigators. Officers were able to capture him, but say Cox resisted being handcuffed, and threatened to intentionally get blood on the officers, saying he would infect them with HIV.
When police got Cox to the jail, they say Cox told jail staff that he had swallowed a razor blade. An ambulance was called, that took Cox to Hazard ARH Regional Medical Center. At the hospital, officers say it was determined that Cox had not, in fact, swallowed a razor blade.
Cox was taken back to the jail and charged with multiple offenses, including fleeing or evading, resisting arrest, terroristic threatening, and harassment.
A warrant was also served on Cox for failing to appear in court on a prior charge of possession of a controlled substance.
