KSP Release Details on Fatal Bath Co. Crash
OWINGSVILLE, Ky. (WTVQ) – State Police have released additional information on a fatal crash in Bath County that happened just before 8:00 a.m. Friday morning that killed one person.
Troopers say they received a report of a reckless driver behind the wheel of a blue Mustang traveling eastbound on I-64. According to police, the Mustang crossed over the median into the westbound lanes of the interstate and side-swiped a tractor trailer.
Investigators say the Mustang hit the front side of the trailer and then hit the back axle, as well, ripping the axle entirely off.
The driver of the Mustang died in the accident. He was identified by State Police as 31-year old Sean Ashburn, of Winchester.
The tractor trailer driver was taken to the hospital for treatment of minor injuries.
The accident shut down all westbound lanes of I-64 while reconstruction crews investigated the accident.
All lanes were reopened late Friday afternoon.
