NASHVILLE, Tn. (ABC36 NEWS NOW)- Former Oklahoma Sooner Otega Oweh beat his former team on a last second lay-up for the second time this season as Kentucky advances to the SEC Tournament quarterfinals, 85-84.

How it Happened

Oweh, who scored a team-high 27 points, made the game winning basket with under a second left on the clock.

Against OU in February, Oweh lifted in a lay-up to 83-82 as time wound down as well.

The play that gives Kentucky another night’s stay in Nashville came after Oklahoma made a last-ditch effort of its own. Jeremiah Fears scored a lay-up with six seconds left in the game to put the Sooners up 84-83.

The Wildcats had a slim lead at halftime that grew to a 12 point cushion in the second stanza. It was reduced by Oklahoma in the second half, but the Sooners only led twice in the second 20 minutes.

Box Score Breakdown

Turnovers almost killed the Cats with 12 accounting for 16 Sooner points including a Jalon Moore dunk to cut the UK lead to one after Andrew Carr turned the ball over to Fears.

Free throws were also an issue for Kentucky as the Cats converted 68% of them to OU’s 83%.

UK was able to get an edge on second chance points winning that battle 13-7.

Aside from scoring, Oweh tallied team-leading assists with five and steals with three.

Koby Brea had a team second best 22 points. The other Wildcat in double-figure scoring was Carr with 11, who also had a team-high seven rebounds.

Butler on the Bench

Head Coach Mark Pope was again without point guard Lamont Butler for some of the game.

The UK playmaker exited the game in the first half after he reaggravated his shoulder injury and was ruled out for the remainder of the game in the second half.

Butler emerged from having an X-Ray of his shoulder taken back in the locker room in the second half in a warm-up shirt.
