6 fire departments in western, south-central Ky. get grants

MAYFIELD, Ky. (AP) — Some fire departments in western and south-central Kentucky will receive federal assistance totaling nearly a half-million dollars.

U.S. Rep. Ed Whitfield’s office says the grants are from the Department of Homeland Security’s Federal Emergency Management Agency in cooperation with the U.S. Fire Administration.

A news release from Whitfield’s office said the grants will provide funding to help with emergency response equipment, personal protective equipment, firefighting and emergency vehicles, and training under the operations and safety program.

The grants are going to Mayfield Fire Department, $227,273 specifically for vehicle acquisition; Summer Shade Volunteer Fire Department, Metcalfe County, $61,905; Knifley Area Volunteer Fire Department, Adair County, $55,058; Elkton Volunteer Fire Department, $38,096; Grapevine Community Volunteer Fire Department in Hopkins County, $34,517; and Robards Community Fire Department in Henderson County, $26,381.
