5K honors fallen officer
LEXINGTON, Ky. (WTVQ) – It’s been over two years since the tragic death of Richmond Police Officer Daniel Ellis. Saturday, the community rallied for a 5k race to honor his memory.
“Richmond is our home. It’s where Daniel and I chose to raise our family. I’m so glad to still be apart of this community,” Daniel’s wife Katie Ellis to the crowd of nearly a thousand.
“The love that she pours into this event and how the community surrounds her, it’s an awesome experience,” said Ernestine Brashear with Heartland Rehabilitation Services, a silver sponsor for the event.
The race raises money for the Daniel Ellis Foundation while also contributing to a scholarship endowment at Eastern Kentucky University to help pay for students to become first responders.
“Richmond will show you that they’ll continue to come in and they will care for each other. They will take care of their own,” said runner Sean Click.
