$40 million unclaimed property in Fayette County

LEXINGTON, Ky. (ABC 36 NEWS NOW) – Kentucky Treasurer Mark Metcalf says more than $40 million in unclaimed property is waiting to be claimed by residents in Fayette County.

According to the Treasurer’s Office, the Division of Unclaimed Property safeguards money from dormant bank accounts, unclaimed insurance policies, utility deposits, stocks, and even safe deposit boxes.

Metcalf said the goal is simple: to return the funds to the people who rightfully own them. Kentuckians can search for their name at treasury.ky.gov to check if they are owed money.

Since taking office in 2024, Metcalf says his team has already returned a record $65 million to Kentuckians.
