Franklin County Sheriff Pat Melton says three people have died and one has been sent to the hospital after a wreck on I-64 at mile marker 49, a few miles away from Frankfort exit 53.

The Sheriff says his office received a call around 6:45 a.m. about a van that had gone off the roadway, hit a tree, and caught fire.

When responders arrived, they say they found the van with three people dead inside, and one person still alive.

That person was sent to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

Investigators believe that a tire on the van may have blown out, causing the driver to lose control of the vehicle.  They also believe speed may have been a factor in the wreck.

The identities of the victims have not been released at this time.
