25 new Fayette COVID cases Thursday, more vaccine opportunities set

LEXINGTON, Ky. (WTVQ) – Fayette County’s seven-day moving COVID average rose slightly late this week as the possible holiday impact on COVID testing may be fading.

It comes as the health department sets another pop-up weekend clinic Sunday and more opportunities next week to try to continue to grow the number of people vaccinated in the community.

According to the Lexington-Fayette County Health Department, anyone ages 18 and older can get a free one-dose Johnson & Johnson vaccine 1-3 p.m. Sunday, June 6, at Church Under the Bridge, 203 E. Fourth St. No appointment needed.

The Lexington-Fayette County Health Department is offering other FREE vaccination clinics, each with a different COVID-19 vaccine. Walk-ins will be accepted, or residents can schedule an appointment at lfchd.org/vaccine.

— Moderna (18 years and older): 10 a.m.-noon, June 9, Consolidated Baptist Church, 1625 Russell Cave Road. We will provide you with a list of options for receiving your second dose.

— Pfizer (12 years and older): 1-3 p.m. June 9, at Consolidated Baptist Church, 1625 Russell Cave Road. We will contact you about scheduling your second dose.

— Johnson & Johnson (18 years and older): 1-3 p.m., June 10, St. Peter Claver Catholic Church, 410 Jefferson St.

— Public Health Clinic: Starting June 7, free COVID-19 vaccines will be available by same-day appointment 9:30 a.m.-3:30 p.m. every Monday in the department’s Public Health Clinic at 650 Newtown Pike. Call 859-288-2483 to schedule an appointment.

The county confirmed 25 cases Thursday, according to the Lexington-Fayette County Health Department’s morning report Friday. The 25 cases pushed the total since March 2020 to 35,332.

The seven-day moving average rose from 10 to 11.

The county reported one death, raising that grim statistic at 317 lost to COVID-related causes since March 2020.

To keep cases from increasing, continue to follow these guidelines:
• Wear a cloth face-covering in public
• Avoid close contact with others
• Wash your hands often
• Stay home if you are sick
• Get vaccinated when you have the opportunity.
