Kentucky launches new mobile ID app for smartphones
(ABC36 NEWS NOW) – Kentucky has launched a new mobile ID program that allows residents to access a digital version of their driver’s license or identification card on their smartphones.
According to the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet, residents can download the new Kentucky Mobile ID app from the Apple App Store or Google Play to create a digital version of their license or ID.
Officials emphasize that the mobile ID is meant to be a supplemental option and does not replace a physical driver’s license. Drivers are still required to carry their physical license, particularly in situations such as traffic stops or crashes.
Police say a physical ID will still be needed if a driver is involved in an accident or is pulled over.
State officials say the program is designed to offer added convenience while maintaining current identification requirements.
