Preakness Prep with Todd Pletcher

  1. LEXINGTON, Ky. (WTVQ) – For those who aren’t horse racing aficionados, the Preakness Stakes is the shortest of the Triple Crown events at 1 3/16 mile.

The Belmont is the longest at 1 1/2 mile.  The Kentucky Derby just 1 1/4 mile.

Ten horses or so are likely to enter Wednesday in the Preakness post position draw.  Can any of them threaten Derby winner Always Dreaming is the question.

Trainer Todd Pletcher knows all too well any horse can win from anywhere not only the first Saturday in May, but the third Saturday of the month as well.

With half the field size, Wednesday’s draw isn’t as crucial as the one at Churchill Downs.

Exercise riders play an important role in prepping horses for races.

The jockey you see get the glory in the winner’s circle, and the mount on race day, isn’t the same one there every morning during workouts.

Nick Bush is the lesser known man aboard Always Dreaming.

Why did Pletcher decide to go with Bush before Derby to break in his potential Triple Crown winner at Churchill Downs?

Hear from Pletcher in the video.
