WINCHESTER, Ky. (WTVQ) – First responders in Winchester had a lot to celebrate tonight.
At Tuesday night’s City Commission meeting, Christopher Whiteley was promoted from Interim Fire Chief to Fire Chief.
Loved ones and fellow firefighters came out to the meeting to support Winchester’s new top firefighter.
Whiteley said he’s always had an interest in public service. Combined with his experience in the Marine Corps, the impact the tragedy of 9/11 had on him and falling in love with the fire service, Whiteley plans to bring that same passion to this new position.
“You know, really it’s just about earning the respect of the guys in this new – new formal position,” said Whiteley. “Creating a teamwork atmosphere, continuing to have a sense of resiliency with the pandemic and many other things that we’re faced, acknowledging their professional responsiveness to the community that they serve. Yeah, just moving with one heartbeat and trying to continue to move the fire department forward.”
Whiteley also credits the experiences he has had with his fellow firefighters and his family life of providing lessons that have brought him to this point.
