LEXINGTON, Ky. (WTVQ) – For the first time Saturday night, a north Lexington community held a neighborhood block party on Twelfth Street between Kees Road and McClain Drive. The block party had a DJ, free school supplies, raffles for gift cards and Lexington Legends tickets and a fire truck for kids to explore.
Event organizer Kiah Arnold says in the 21 years she’s lived on the block nothing like this has ever happened, but it has been a long-time dream of hers to see. A chance to meet the neighbors, share a meal and let kids run and play while also socializing with local first responders.
“We’ve seen a lot of negativity lately so I’m glad that this event could be a part of that positivity that’s being spread in Lexington,” says Arnold.
Organizers say they aren’t sure if it will be an annual event, but with the community’s support, it’s something they would love to see continue and get bigger with each year.
