GEORGETOWN, Ky. (WTVQ) – Georgetown celebrated its first responders with its annual “Georgetown Heroes Day.”

Thursday, the City of Georgetown hosted a pool party at Suffoletta Family Aquatic Center to showcase their first responders, which included members of the National Guard, the Georgetown Police Department and Georgetown Fire and Rescue, EMS, and the Scott County Sheriff’s Department.

They say it’s all about interacting with the families and children in the community.

“Being out in the community to show this off and engage with the kids out here is a big part of what we do, what we believe in. It’s something we feel is very needed in the community,” said Georgetown Police Department Officer Zach Slone.

“We’re here to support the community and let everybody know a little bit about what we do, get the kids involved, and just have a good day,” said Army National Guard Staff Sergeant Hunter Marcineck.

The event usually expects about 500-700 people annually, and is a long-held tradition in Georgetown.
