UPDATE: Virtual Great Buffalo Chase 5K raises over $21,000

FRANKFORT, Ky. (WTVQ) – This Independence Day weekend, 1,131 people participated in the virtual Great Buffalo Chase 5K. Through the race’s registrations, over $21,000 was raised for Frankfort’s VFW Post 4075’s annual fireworks show on the Fourth of July weekend. Buffalo Trace Distillery also donated $15,000 to God’s Pantry Food Bank to help the local Franklin County community.

The event began early on July 2 with Navji Dixon, a public relations coordinator for Buffalo Trace and performing artist, singing the National Anthem. Afterwards, participants ran and walked the virtual race in their hometowns and local neighborhoods. Runners and walkers were mailed a commemorative shirt and race bib and were given the option to record and submit their personal race time.

Additionally, all who registered were entered into a raffle to win a prize from the Gift Shop and winners were notified through email.

FRANKFORT, Ky. (WTVQ) – With participant health and safety in mind, Buffalo Trace Distillery’s 20th annual Great Buffalo Chase 5K will be held virtually this summer.

Typically, this event takes place on the Fourth of July, bringing in runners from across the nation and even the world to the Distillery for the scenic run. With the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020 came this new approach to the tradition.

Runners and walkers participating in this year’s virtual 5K in their hometowns, local neighborhoods or wherever they might be throughout July 2-4. Normally the run is at the Distillery, but the grounds will not be open to participants. The registration cost is $20 and all proceeds will benefit the Frankfort’s VFW Post 4075. Additionally, Buffalo Trace will make a donation on behalf of all participants to God’s Pantry Food Bank to support the Franklin County community.

Participants can pick up race materials at the Distillery’s curbside or have them shipped for an additional $5 shipping and handling fee. To guarantee shipments arrive in time for the race, it is encouraged to register by Tuesday, June 22. Race time submission details will be provided following registration. Everyone who registers will also be entered into a raffle to win a prize from the Gift Shop.

For another chance to win a prize from the Buffalo Trace Distillery Gift Shop, runners and walkers are encouraged to participate in the virtual patriotic attire costume contest through the Virtual Great Buffalo Chase 5K Facebook Event on the Buffalo Trace Distillery Facebook Page. New to this year’s race is the opportunity to post pictures of pets in Buffalo Trace or patriotic attire for a special costume contest. When posting pictures for the contests or about their race experience, everyone is encouraged to tag @BuffaloTraceDistillery and use #ChaseTheBuffalo.

In the spirit of fairness and with the virtual nature of the race, prizes will not be awarded to top runners this year.
