NICHOLASVILLE, Ky. (WTVQ) – Heavy rain at Keene Trace – Keene Run resulted in the cancellation of the final round of the inaugural Barbasol Junior Championship. Due to this, the tournament’s 36-hole scores will be the official results, making Preston Summerhays of Scottsdale, Arizona as the event’s first-ever champion. He will receive an exemption in the PGA Tour’s Barbasol Championship on July 15-18.

Summerhays’ aggregate score of 133 (-11) gave him a six-stroke margin of victory. Runners-up included Andrew Goodman of Norman, Oklahoma, Nicholas Gross of Downingtown, Pennsylvania, Myles Jones of Suwanee, Georgia and Matthew Troutman of Louisville, Kentucky.

Highlighted by a victory in the 2019 U.S. Junior Amateur at Inverness Club in Toledo, Ohio, Summerhays has been seen as one of the top junior golfers in the world. He also competed in the 2020 U.S. Open at Winged Foot Golf club where he only missed the cut by three strokes, finishing with a better 36-hole score than Tiger Woods, Phil Mickelson, Jordan Spieth and Justin Rose.

The Cullan Brown Trophy winner will get the chance to compete on the professional stage again in a couple weeks at Champions Trace, Keene Run’s sister course. Summerhays had never been to Kentucky before this tournament and now will find himself back in the Commonwealth soon.

Summerhays will start his collegiate career at Arizona State University.

The Barbasol Junior Championship, Keene Trace Golf Club and Kentucky Junior Golf issued their thanks to each player, their caddies and their families.

Dates for next year’s Barbasol Junior Championship have not been determined yet, but it is expected to take place around the same time of year in late June or early July of 2022.
