FRANKFORT, Ky. (WTVQ) – On Friday, the Kentucky House of Representatives passed legislation aimed at expanding access to lucrative careers in the trades.
This will allow Kentucky Educational Excellence Scholarship recipients to use their scholarship funds at privately-owned proprietary schools to pursue career paths that could include welding, cosmetology, mortuary science, and the medical field.
“The purpose of the bill is to simply open up opportunities for our students. By expanding the eligibility for KEES money, we are removing a barrier for students who want to pursue a career in the trade industries,” said Lawrence.
HB 338 passed by a vote of 81 – 17 and now moves to the Senate for consideration. Details of the measure can be viewed on the Legislative Research Commission’s website at www.legislature.ky.gov.
