FRANKLIN COUNTY, Ky. (WTVQ) – Franklin County Sheriff’s Detective Jeff Farmer has been reassigned for now after the public defenders’ in the county raised concerns after it was learned Farmer attended the pro-Trump rally last week that led to the siege of the U.S. Capitol.
The public defenders’ in their letter to the sheriff questioned how minorities in the county can feel protected and serviced by someone who so clearly flaunts his fraternization with racists.
The public defenders’ also allege Farmer has been involved in many cases which reflect targeting and racial profiling.
Sheriff Chris Quire released a statement saying there’s no evidence Farmer broke any laws at the rally and he supports the right of all citizens, including the office’s deputies, to exercise their First Amendment right.
The sheriff went on to say Farmer was reassigned while an internal investigation is conducted into the public defenders’ claims that he’s been involved in many cases which reflect targeting and racial profiling.
The sheriff says he takes the allegations seriously and that’s why there’s an internal investigation.
