LEXINGTON, Ky. (WTVQ) – Amazon plans to build a second fulfillment center in Lexington and hire up to 500 part-time, full-time and seasonal workers, according to the Lexington Herald-Leader.
The report says the Urban County Planning Commission on Thursday voted unanimously to rezone 45-acres from agricultural urban to light industrial for the new fulfillment center to be located at 1180 Newtown Pike near the New Circle Road interchange.
The plans submitted to the planning commission show a 143,000 square feet, one-story building, according to the newspaper report.
Amazon plans to build a new street from Newtown Pike into the fulfillment center property to Silver Springs Drive, according to the report.
A fence will be built along the Legacy Trail, which borders the proposed fulfillment center site, according to the report.
The zone change and development plan must be approved by the full Urban County Council. No dates have been set yet to take up the zone change and plans, according to the Herald-Leader.
Amazon currently has a fulfillment center on Mercer Road in Lexington, which opened in 2000.
