BREATHITT COUNTY, Ky. (WTVQ) – The Breathitt County Division of Emergency Management says a camera that was mistakenly left on at an early voting location did not record any ballots.
EMA Director Chris Friley says the camera was initially set up in the fiscal courtroom to record incidents during meetings.
Friley says the courtroom has since been used as an early voting location due to COVID-19, and the camera was never turned off.
He says this was brought to the court’s attention and was not intentional. The director says the Breathitt County Judge-Executive has authority to request footage when desired, but has not since early voting began.
Friley says he and the Breathitt County Sheriff’s Department reviewed the camera Wednesday morning and says due to the distance, voting machines only appeared as bright blurs.
He says the camera is now unplugged, covered, and the DVR footage is deleted.
