VERSAILLES, Ky. (WTVQ) – Frontier Nursing University is closing the Woodford Lakes Golf Course located adjacent to the institution’s campus in Versailles as part of the college’s move from Hytden, Ky. and expansion into its new center.
In 2017 FNU purchased the property formerly owned by the United Methodist Children’s Home and the adjacent property which included the Woodford Lakes Golf Course, which was reopened to the public on August 31, 2018.
Since purchasing the property, FNU has made extensive upgrades to the course and has replaced the clubhouse. FNU hoped that Woodford Lakes would be profitable and a vehicle by which student scholarships could be funded.
Careful monitoring of the course’s financial status led the FNU Board of Directors to decide the course will be closed as of November 1, 2020.
“We know that many individuals from the community, including some of our own staff, have enjoyed playing rounds at Woodford Lakes,” said FNU President Dr. Susan Stone. “Its closure was a decision not made lightly. We are in the process of considering options for the property that will be less expensive and still add value to our University and the community. We look forward to continuing to be part of the Versailles community and to welcoming students to the campus in 2021.”
The new 67-acre campus maintains FNU’s presence in a rural county while providing more space to serve FNU’s more than 2,300 students.
Students were set to begin utilizing the Versailles campus this fall, but face-to-face instruction was suspended until 2021 due to the COVID -19 pandemic.
