Man indicted for assaulting officers during arrest

POWELL COUNTY, Ky. (WTVQ) – A Stanton man is indicted for assaulting two officers in July.

According to the Powell County Sheriff’s Department, 37-year-old Jonathan L. Elkins also is wanted in Ohio on drug charges.

Elkins was arrested Saturday by Deputy Hunter Martin, Stanton Police Det. Bill Rice and Clay City Police Chief Martin Tipton during a traffic stop on Campton Road.

Elkins was jailed on felony indictments for two counts of third-degree assault on a police officer stemming from a July 27 incident when he fought with Martin, Stanton Police Sgt. Ian Morton when they tried to arrest him on an Ohio warrant for possession of fentanyl.

Elkins is being held on a $30,500 cash bond for his Powell County cases, and a $100,000 cash bond for his Hamilton County, Ohio case.
