LEXINGTON, Ky (WTVQ) – Bluegrass Greensource is hosting its seventh annual Main Street Clean Sweep, partnering with community coordinators during the month of September to host litter cleanup events throughout 16 communities.
Last year’s Main Street Clean Sweep event resulted in more than 1,000 volunteers picking up 150,000 bags of trash. This year’s event was rescheduled from the spring and will be focused around National Cleanup Day, September 19.
Bluegrass Greensource is working with the partner communities and sponsors to ensure that all COVID-19 related safety measures are in place for each cleanup.
“Main Street Clean Sweep is a great opportunity for families and individuals to come together and help our local environment,” says Amy Sohner, executive director of Bluegrass Greensource. “Being outside, and part of a socially distanced large, regional event will help us all feel empowered in a way that we haven’t been able to since the pandemic started.”
Clean ups are scheduled throughout the central Kentucky area.
