Community members gather to pick up and dispose of litter in their communities.

This event is always widely attended, encourages community engagement, pride in place, and beautifies the downtown areas of the cities and towns involved, which boosts support for local businesses.

Clean ups are held rain or shine.

Social distancing will be enforced at all cleanups to prevent the spread of Covid-19. We will provide gloves, trash bags, and hand sanitizer. Masks are required, and parties must stay six feet apart from each other.

LEXINGTON, Ky (WTVQ) – Bluegrass Greensource is hosting its seventh annual Main Street Clean Sweep, partnering with community coordinators during the month of September to host litter cleanup events throughout 16 communities.

Bluegrass Greensource is working with the partner communities and sponsors to ensure that all COVID-19 related safety measures are in place for each cleanup.

“Main Street Clean Sweep is a great opportunity for families and individuals to come together and help our local environment,” says Amy Sohner, executive director of Bluegrass Greensource. “Being outside, and part of a socially distanced large, regional event will help us all feel empowered in a way that we haven’t been able to since the pandemic started.”

Clean ups are scheduled throughout the central Kentucky area.
