LEXINGTON, Ky. (WTVQ)– For kindergarten teacher Katina Stevens, her love for education started when she herself was in kindergarten.
“I remember my kindergarten teacher to this day. She made if fun she made it special she made it engaging I remember so much of her class so it meant a lot for me to have a great teacher so I try to put that on myself and be that for my students as well,” said Katina Stevens.
Stevens was nominated by a mother who says the teacher had a major impact on her son who is ADHD. Stevens says that’s why she does what she does.
“I want to help do anything I can to reach out and help those students and those families. It’s just where I want to be,” said Stevens.
Stevens has been a kindergarten teacher at Jessamine Early Learning Village for four years. She says being the WTVQ ABC 36 Parent Teacher Store ‘Teacher of the Week’ just further proves her family motto.
“My family has this motto that everything happens for a reason, I know it’s cliche, but we felt that. I was a little discouraged in getting started in my career and when I moved here I met a friend who helped me get the job I have here at the Early Learning Village and it just turned into a teaching position several years later,” explained Stevens.
Stevens says she’s blessed everything happened the way it did so she can continue to have an impact on students.
