Virtual ‘Concert for the Cause’ broadens kids’ cancer outreach

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WTVQ)Organizations across the state have changed fund raisers this year because of the ongoing coronavirus outbreak.

That’s meant cancellations and reschedulings. It’s also meant many groups have taken traditional events online.

And while that may have changed the look of events, it’s also given organizations a chance to reach a broader audience than those who might normally attend in person.

One of those is the Kids Cancer Alliance, a Kentucky-based non-profit organization dedicated to serving children with cancer and their families. It’s hosting the annual Concert for the Cause fundraiser Saturday, August 22 virtually so anyone can join from anywhere.

The event, presented by The Porcini-Farmer Children’s Foundation, features an online auction, raffle, bourbon pull, and will culminate with a live-streaming broadcast on Saturday, August 22nd featuring a Kids Cancer Alliance Family, Premier Auction Items, and country music concert by Kassi Ashton.

Register by texting Concert2020 to 243-725.

“Concert for the Cause is a truly special evening that brings together the Bluegrass to support our local children battling cancer right here in our own backyard” says Executive Director Shelby Russell. “While this year has brought many challenges, Kids Cancer Alliance remains committed to serving the needs of children with cancer. But Kids Cancer Alliance can’t do it alone. We are excited to be hosting the event online this year so that we can reach a greater audience and give more people the opportunity to get involved and give back.”

The Premier Auction features unique and rare opportunities such as a chance to taste and choose a barrel of Blanton’s bourbon, a one-week stay at a gorgeous St. Thomas vacation villa, and the opportunity to dine with UofL Men’s Basketball Coach Chris Mack.

Online auction includes more than 100 packages including family-friendly experiences, home goods, sports memorabilia and much more.

Participate in the “Bourbon Pull” sponsored by 1792 Bourbon for $50 and you are guaranteed to win a bottle of bourbon that could range from a bottle of 1792, to Weller 12 year or special antique bourbons.

“Choose Your Own Adventure” raffle tickets are just $25 and the winner will get to choose between a getaway to either Bali, Tuscany, Greece, Paris or Jackson Hole.

Everyone will want to tune in on Saturday, August 22nd at 7:30 p.m. to hear Kids Cancer Alliance family, the Funks, share their childhood cancer journey, hear from special guest speakers, bid on the Premier Auction Packages and see who will win the Raffle Drawing.
